Got this from [personal profile] amethystfirefly who got it from [info]yuuanashi

On the morning of Monday, November 30, 2009, 6-week-old baby Holden was beaten by his father. His skull was fractured in two places, and he suffered swelling
of his brain and internal bleeding into his brain. Holden was rushed to the hospital, and then life flighted to a nearby children's hospital, his life
hanging in the balance. His father was taken to jail on charges of child cruelty and aggravated assault, and is now facing 5-20 years in prison for this
heinous act. Since the injury, Holden is recovering far faster than anyone, even the doctors, expected. Within the first five days, he was awake, alert,
responsive to not only pain stimuli but also to noise, was breathing on his own, had regained his sucking reflex, and was allowed to be taken from the
incubator and held by his mother. The doctors are hopeful that with him pulling out of the critical stage so quickly that, not only will he survive, but
will have minimal long-term effects from his injuries.

Before this terrible act, the family had already been going through a tough time. Throughout the majority of the mother's pregnancy, both parents had been
out of work, and thus, they had only been able to get the very bare essentials for him: a few sleepers, a few bibs, a couple of blankets, a couple of bottles.
Holden was 4 weeks premature, so the family wasn't able to hold a baby shower for the mother before his birth. They were planning to go ahead with having
a shower after his birth before this tragedy struck. Because of these financial difficulties, they had fallen behind on their rent, and his mother went
back to work only a week after he was born in an effort to try to catch up their bills and try to provide Christmas for Holden and his older siblings.

Of course, the tragedy that struck caused a major setback for the whole family. The eldest brother is now staying with his father, but I honestly don't
know what kind of Christmas Holden and his 17-month-old sister will have this year, if any. If anyone would like to donate to Christmas for these poor
children (no obligation, of course), please contact Dee (catsmeow2003 on LJ) either via LJ message or email at bubblegum.totchi@hotmail.com for an address
to which to send. These children have very little, so any help at all would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just a $1 gift from a dollar store or
used clothing that is in good condition. Anything at all would be used and appreciated, but the things most needed are:

- Clothes (Holden is still wearing Newborn sizes, but will be in 0-3 months sizes soon enough, God willing; his sister is about 18 pounds, whatever size
that would be)
- Bibs (you can never have enough of those if you have children under 3 years old)
- Socks
- Booties
- Sleepers (any kind would be helpful, but with winter starting, ESPECIALLY the fleece kind or blanket sleepers)
- Diapers (again, you can never have too many)
- Bottles (just regular, old-fashioned bottles, not the fancy kind)
- Sippy cups for the 17-month-old)
- Any sort of baby care products (powder, shampoo, lotion, baby wash, etc)
- Blankets (any sort, including receiving blankets)
- Pacifiers (another thing you can never have too many of)
- Toys (not a necessity, but if anyone is inclined, Holden isn't old enough yet for more than general infant toys such as rattles, teething rings, etc,
but his sister loves kitties, puppies, dress-up stuff, things like cups and bowls and spoons that she can pretend to cook with - typical little girl stuff)

Dee also has a PayPal at bubblegum.totchi@hotmail.com, if you're interested in donating money.

Again, please do not feel obligated in any way. But if you feel compelled to help these poor innocents, and have the means to do so, please, by all means,
help this family in their time of need. Any and all contributions will be most appreciated.

ETA: Please repost this to boost the signal. Thanks!
